Sorry? Not necessary. A "you're welcome" is in order for the straight talk.
Have you ever heard of the Seven Generation Rule? For any course of action that differed from established norms, the Hopi would (I don't know if they still do) carefully consider in a council of leaders, the impact of said decision, seven generations into the future. "If we want to hunt on the mesa, what could that mean seven gens from now? If we want to divert part of the stream into this lowland, what could happen? If we want to trade with the Navajo, how will that impact us?"
Do you think the people of this country consider the what-ifs that far out about anything other than maybe Yucca Mountain? Nope, no further than the next meal, reality show, purchase or vacation.
Or....how many people in the US do you think have spent a any time living in the conditions of someone who earns the global median income? (And I don't mean leaving your house some morning in Atlanta with 4 bucks in your pocket to try and live like some college student on the cheap. I mean the total, collective life-quality of HALF the people on this planet.) How many do you think have gone 24 hours w/o a meal or walked two miles at one stretch in the last year?
As a nation, we are trapped on the lowest level of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.
