Holbrooke is not happy with the way the Bush folk have handled the diplomacy aspects of all this, wants to play down the split, etc. He is, of course and not surprisingly, an Iraq hawk.

I don't think you have heard Holbrooke's comments on Chirac's latest maneuvers, especially the ones involving NATO. I heard him on Fox two days ago. Holbrooke was really scathing.

Holbrooke has little use for major diplomatic rifts caused by players who are not serious, and the French are not. They do not actually have an opposing policy, they are just trying to puff their own importance.
