As a followup to Nadine's post on Holbrooke, here is the transcript from PBS of his appearance on Monday. I thought Woolsey was predictable, in fact predictably predictable; Holbrooke was engaged in elegant double talk (trying to down play the extent of the crisis, dropping allusions to his importance by reminding us that he had been at Munich with "Margaret and Jim" which was to say Kupshan was not there, so there "Charley", another put down, looks like Holbrooke has earned his reputation for difficult interpersonal relations), and finally noting the difficulty the Clinton folk had getting these same countries on board for Bosnia and Kosovo); and Kupshan offerering some interesting insights into the critical character of the divide. I hope tek is right, that the degree to which the diplomatic failures of the Bush administration is fouling things up, can be corrected and thus are more of a short term worry than a long term worry, I hope he's right. At this very moment, he looks to be wrong. There is serious damage being done to alliances. That need not be done.
