Chris, you must be reading challenged, I have nothing against equalizing the treatment of dividend and interest, as a matter of fact my position is go ahead make both dividends and interest deductible to corporations that pay these out, that avoid double taxation and will result in a better debt/equity ratio in corporate America. Giving dividend a tax treatment superior to interest will have a number of detrimental results, increase in rates on tax free debt (just when states and municipalities can least afford it), and reliance on tax deductible interest from debt rather equity. I don't think that the administration proposal to make dividend tax free equalizes the treatment of dividends and interest.
