Ted Re... First, the group that is objecting is a troika plus one.......Germany, France, Russia + Belgium.

Thats exactly what I said. Them in that sentence was Germany.

Secondly, France and Germany rule the EU.

First place, if Russia is in the new pact, Russia will easily have he most power militarily. Secondly, if Russia gets its wish, and causes instability in the ME, such that oil goes to $40/br. Russia will also be the strongest economically, plus all of eur. would be dependent upon Russian oil.

Thirdly, the new members of NATO have squat to show for. Its too bad their scared.....what are they going to do, move their countries to N. America. What Europe does they do.

I wouldn't bet on it. They all have sided with the US so far in both the UN and NATO disputes. Secondly, Poland and the rest would love to have the US bully them for 40 yrs, so they can supplant Germany and France as the economic powers in Eur. Every country under Russian protection wound up broke, every country under US protection has turned into an economic power, including Germany, Japan, S Korea and Israel. Thirdly, the US has the preeminent nuclear umbrella, Russia's is deteriorating badly, and only the US has antiballistic missiles, which every one of them will be begging for, if N Korea keeps saber rattling.

Fourthly, Germany is very worried about al Qaeda and they are doing all they can to track down cells. However, they have repeatedly said that they think the US attempt to link al Qaeda and Iraq is much to do about nothing. They base their opinion on intelligence reports from their own CIA, Britain's and the US's.

Another reason Germany can hardly afford to split with the US. The US and Israel easily have the best intelligence services in the world. Secondly, Germany has a lot of Al qaeda cells, and a large muslim population; if OBL decides Germany is weak, Germany could be toast.

What a joke.....you don't think they have thought of that?

Not really, if they had thought of that, would they be acting like spoiled children, who if they don't get their way start whining and bawling. I though is was just because they are liberals.

You don't get it....the way Bush has treated our allies, I am surprised they are not breaking relations with us.

Tell em to grow up. So what if they think the US is arrogant. That is hardly an excuse for jepordizing nat,. securtiy. How much do you think their incessant bawling is going to cause the US in lives cost in the middle east. A lot more than if we had UN support. And we are just supposed to eat that, because they are having a snit. Grow up.

I would not be surprised if Britain joins them after Blair is recalled as PM.

Could be, but I wouldn't bet on it. The war will go within a month, with or without them, and if the war goes well, Blair could well be the hero, and Chirac, and Schroeder the idiots, left out in the cold.

Oh my God.......that was 60 years ago and we have benefitted mightily from the relationship

You are hardly the sharpest knife in the drawer tonight. W Berlin was less than 40. More importantly, the US hasn't charged europe for the cost of our troops and equipment protecting them. Yes we benefitted, but not as much as they, as the US was relatively unscathed in WWII, and France and Germany had to be rebuilt.

Yeah, well keep up with this attitude and the split will become permanent.

I wouldn't want insolent members like that on my team either, acting like little spoiled stars, when they are second stringers. There are many other willing to take their place. The US will do fine without them, if that is what they wish.
