"Or will just another 12 years do?"

Twelve years of talking will do for a wife. But my mistress better have her dress off within 12 seconds of gliding into that motel room... :-)

I said nothing to you about talking to Saddam or Iraq. Iraq has little productive to say in any case. We were talking about the Security Counsel discussions ABOUT Iraq for these last several months.

No, they haven't talked too long. They are following protocol, and as in a lawful trial every member with something to say is speaking for the benefit of the counsel. It may seem trite that I should see fit to laud what is only expected by reasonable people--to wit, that a counsel should take counsel--but you must remember that the willingness to consider the opinions and viewpoints of other nations in such a depth is relatively new. It certainly argues for less misunderstandings and misinterpretations of motive and intentions.

"What you fail to realize is that the UN is rapidly proving its uselessness and irrelevance"

I think you are wrong on both those assertions. Powell's comment that it was in danger of becoming irrelevant was a carefully crafted threat, I agree. But the truth remains that it continues a body that coordinates initiatives of the civilized world, and promotes stability and a commonality of values and principles. If some Nations have contrary agendas, well so do some witnesses in trials. Yet we still trust to reason to discredit bad witnesses, and we still have the trial before the hanging.

The UN has prevented Nations from annihilating one another. Her peacekeepers have protected innocents from the insanity of religious aggressors and zealots. It has helped to control and confine some of the many wars currently blazing from spreading like wild fires across the planet. You may think all of this is irrelevant and useless...but many consider it the most critical linchpin for the preservation of normalcy in the coming decades.
