Hey, you are really wrapped up in this idea, aren't you? Yeah... sometimes I get those "gut-feelings" where intuition seems to take over.... And I keep trying to tear it apart (with the help of you'se guys.. :0) but find the efficacy, if not the ingenuity of such a scheme, to be far too attractive.. Bin Laden couldn't keep his mug off TV or videotape for years. But we haven't seen squat of him that can actually be confirmed as being post-ToraBora.. Just audiotapes... That suggests that someone is trying to keep him "alive", but in an very ineffective manner.. (video is far more powerful).. Tie that together with Bin Laden apparently announcing his forth-coming martyrdom, I just don't see how that would benefit Al-Qaeda. If anything he should just do it, and leave behind a tape explaining the why of it all.. That would be more effective in ensuring his martyrdom and legacy amongst Arabs.. But if he announces he's going to kill himself this year, psychologically it's the same as saying that he believes all is lost.. that he's at his wit's end and desperate enough to kill himself... That he's lost his struggle.. And few people are that enthused to join a loser.. right?? That's my logic.. Were I Al-Qaeda leadership, I would never release these kinds of tapes, because they sound defeatist and desperate... But were I the US, involved in a very clever disinformation campaign aimed at controlling the perspective of the Arab world, I WOULD.... I know it sounds crazy as hell... But isn't that just we expect from these kinds of operations?? Hawk
