John, that article makes too much sense to be true. <ng>

You know how an addict will do anything before recovery -- theft for example, to maintain access, and lies to cover up the problem. The addiction is oil. Rather than prepare for a logical evolution in world economies where any single nation would not be the mother of the another nation's currency, the consequences of such a conversion have been allowed to grow and fester to a magnitude that is probably no longer containable without widespread economic chaos. The remedy is to mitigate and eventually eliminate substance dependence from without. Initiatives like 30 mpg avg. gas mileage are shot down as un-American and un-Patriotic even if the rejection of similar-minded policies results in ultimate catastrophe. The parallels in behavior mirror those I watched in my own brother who battled substance abuse for 20 years. My brother's behavior nearly destroyed all ties to his own family; the US seems on the verge of destroying ties to NATO & the UN. Yet we do things to increase our vulnerability and do not believe we, of all people, should ever have to change. Conversely, we have leadership which encourages us to speculate and to become more indebted than ever before.
