Should we not be friendly with German and Japan because we fought bloody wars with them earlier this century?

I believe the point is that the very GUY the US supported (not only holding his hand, but with weapons etc) is the one they are attacking on the basis of him being "evil".

If Hitler were still alive and if the US got friendly with him, the same criticism would surely apply. As it is, Germany has a different ideology now, and is run by completely different people. So it's OK to be friendly from an "integrity" point of view.
