Did you notice that just recently, as he was looking at the US about ready to pull the trigger of the gun it had pointed at him, Saddam agreed to allow U2 flights over Iraq? The only thing the man respects is force or the credible threat of force. Anything else is meaningless.
And you want the UN to exercise its jawbone more.
the UN is practically dead...and so probably is the world.
Gimme a break. The world survived a long time without it and will survive its demise. Which could be imminent if it doesn't change course.
Canada is a large country with very few people.
OK. Unfair crack. It's the 2nd largest nation on the planet with 11% of UN population. And about 1/2 % of world population.

What has suicide got to do with this? If you think the US pulling out of the UN would be suicide, I'd like to suggest you're seriously wrong.

Cut the crap. That's what that is. We're talking about EUROPE now, not Canada. EUROPE has a population and economy fairly comparable to that of the US. And it sat there and dithered for YEARS while the Balkans burned.
Do you REALLY wonder why American give most of Europe so little respect? (I'll except Britain from that; it can act when needed.)
Many British, Canadians, and others, have relatives whom are citizens of the US.

It has nothing to do with that. Canada wants to preserve the values that North America was founded on.
The French and Germans have put NATO at risk. Their refusal to allow preparation for the defense of Turkey, a NATO member, was outrageous. They should either get with the program or get out of NATO. And if they won't the other 16 members should withdraw and form a new alliance. |
