Peace group rolls out anti-war signs on Clallam buses

2003-02-14 by JEFF CHEW

The anti-Iraq war message hit the streets of Clallam County this week, with signs posted on the sides of Clallam Transit System buses.

``The plan is to have them on for the entire month,'' said Vincent Murray, a leader with the Peninsula Peace Movement, which sponsored the advertisements.

``This is how we alert people to the folly of war to resolve conflict,'' he added. ``It doesn't work, and historically that is certainly true.''

But don't look for such signs on the sides of Jefferson Transit buses.

A spokesperson for the transit agency says Jefferson has a policy against political advertising.

Peninsula Peace Movement, which now says it has more than 100 members, paid Clallam Transit a total of $700 to put seven signs on the sides of buses. Each sign is about 7 feet long and 2 feet tall.
