Join peace rally, students urged

By Claire Regan

STUDENT leaders today called on their members to support the 'Stop the War Rally' taking place tomorrow in Belfast.

Northern Ireland's largest student body, the NUS-USI, will join the churches, peace groups and other campaigners for a planned march and rally to voice protest against the looming war against Iraq.

NUS-USI deputy convenor Andy Ward said: "We are encouraging local students to join with millions of people across the world in the demonstrations taking place this Saturday to highlight opposition about a possible attack on Iraq.

"We believe a resolution to this crisis should be pursued through diplomatic and peaceful means."

- The unions want students to meet up at the Art College in Belfast at 2pm tomorrow for a march to the City Hall.
