Marcos,

I have been busy finishing up a project, and now I'm on vacation in the desert and have a bit of free time. As I travel, I find America fully in the grip of the war on terror. The airports in Anchorage and Seattle have undergone major remodels to handle better baggage screening. As a responsible American citizen on a war footing, I've sealed my bags with cable ties instead of padlocks, so they can be opened and inspected.

Arriving at my destination, I notice that one bag was indeed opened and resealed. At the car rental place I wait a long time behind a young man who is going through all kinds of security hassles to rent a car for a few days. After all, the enemy could really be that college student next door.

At 3AM I finally make it to my motel. After two long flights and various delays, I can shower and put on some clean underwear. But alas! I carried nothing sharp in my carryon luggage, not even a nail clipper. So I can't cut the cable ties to open my bags! Such is the state of the war on terror in America. I bet the Brits never had it this bad during the Blitz. <ggg>

More this weekend,
Snow
