US offers generous aid package to Turkey

15.02.2003 13:00 UTC

U.S. and Turkish negotiators have moved closer to securing a deal on an economic aid package which would clear the way for Ankara's help in any invasion of Iraq. U.S. President George W. Bush met with Turkish Foreign Minister Yasar Yakis and others at the White House in a bid to get an agreement which would allow American forces to use Turkish bases as a springboard for an invasion of Iraq from the north. U.S. sources said Washington was offering a generous aid package worth more than $20 billion dollars. Once an agreement is reached, it must be approved by the U.S. Congress.

Wow, can we really afford $20 billion just for Turkey? With our $5.6 trillion projected surplus turned into a deficit under Dubya, we cannot afford this massive bribery.

The bankruptcy of our policy ensures that we can only buy friends and allies. And alienate all the ones we had. It is a losing proposition. Dubya once again showing off his expertise in losing. No one has done it better. Or faster.
