However you interpret the events, Dip, I think you would not have pressed the issue of slavery and subservience were Powell not black. What you do here is employ gross racism to imply a black man cannot be loyal to his president. Many others are loyal to Bush, others have been loyal to other presidents and have even been the fall guys for them when they have blundered. No one called them slaves. But take a black guy who does the same, when the chips are down being willing to crisply salute his commanding officer and do his duty, yall start insulting the man as a "slave" and a "servant."

That is pretty friggin' gross. I don't think you wish to be a racist, and that is why I am telling you this. But I think you are certainly being racist here. I tell you publicly because I think it ought to be said publicly. Had Powell been just another white guy, I think slavery never would have been an issue.

You employ an ancient wound to try and hurt the guy. The problem is, Powell will never even see your comments. But perhaps many other blacks lurking here will. You are cracking the whip across the backs of any of them who might identify with Powell. And that is a pretty disgusting thing to do. No reason for it.

Blacks can be loyal Americans too, and those who would call them slaves because of their loyalty are simply exposing their own racist natures.
