WLD- Bush and the administration have come out HARD on this thing from the beginning...they have allowed nary a glint of diplomatic wiggle-room for alternate solutions....had they pursued a more diplomatic road the last year, yes, there would be a way for Bush to come out looking the stronger (politically) w/o war..

But, for better or worse, Bush/administration have chosen to play hard-ball throughout.....that has consequences if it doesn't work out....you can't so easily sweep away the political residue of endless speeches declaring "Saddam must go, he is evil...we will go with/without allies" etc...at some point, you have to put up or shut up....or you will severly weaken your "words" in future, and look like you are caving to public pressure (the very thing Bush adm. accused Clinton presidency, not w/o reason, of doing..)

Essentially, Bush adm. boxed ourselves into a political corner on this one....Not saying it was wrong course of action, but it is what it is...I don't see a "Clinton-esque" escape (politically) for Bush
