I'm not trying to make the case that it's irrelevant.

I'm hoping we can set a standard here, which is not met in any other political thread in SI, of rational, civilized discussion of issues.

I don't think it a matter of bigotry to think the lives of those you are responsible for are of more value than those of outsiders. That's been the nature of human beings since there were human beings. My family comes first for me. I hope your family comes first for you. That's not bigotry. That's the way things should be.

Bush is the leader of our country. I would certainly hope than when push comes to shove he favors American lives over others. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a concern for other lives. I don't personally see any evidence of that. But if he didn't put Americans first, I sure wouldn't want him as my national leader.
