Edward, Sorry for the delay, I've been out of town. Per your questions:

3D has been a big paradigm shift for graphics. It has helped upset old graphics apple cart and allowed some companies to really come on strong: 3Dfx, 3D Labs, nVidia, ATI, etc. 3D will certainly replace 90%+ of the old 2D only graphics business by the end of 1998. It will be a standard graphics feature everywhere soon.

Quantum 3D is an effort by the 3Dfx investor team to commercialize the 3Dfx chips faster. Once 3Dfx got this great Voodoo chip set, I think the 3Dfx guys thought it was too difficult to get the board guys to move quickly enough to get the technology to market. Naturally, the guy that is heading Quantum thought he could do it better. (I met him once.) I think that is the motivation for Quantum3D. They will probably come up with great boards. Their challenge will be squeezing those boards into channels, unless they do an all internet distribution play. I don't know how they'll handle distribution.

The RAGE PRO is a good chip, and for the money, a great chip. You ought to consider grabbing one of the XPert@Work or XPert@Play boards to squeeze yet another year of life out of the old P90. Hah! That's why Intel wants to get into graphics, to kill off the upgrade market and move more high margin CPUs quicker. What fun.

Hope this helps and good luck.
