The UN, as you point out, has made mistakes and as I've said, it is only as good as the behavior of the key players. There was clearly no proper claim to Israel when it came to European Jews or for Britain, or least no more claim than I have to ancestral lands in Ireland. I'd say colonial war prize status was about the best that anyone had so I'll have to say that was a flawed decision, heavily influenced by more important matters such as Yalta's aftermath, the Iron Curtain and the reconstruction of Germany.

Israel is a fait accompli now, but we should learn from the mistakes of the UN and not repeat them as a matter of policy. Hopefully, in the future, when one people has been wronged, we won't be so hasty to wrong another as the remedy. Such is the plan to declare war on the people of Iraq in response to the WTC attack(s) of bin Laden.
