Ted RE.. don't think you understand......he is giving the missiles to Turkey but he's using channels outside of NATO.....its a snub to the US. <

It is not a snub to the US. Germany tried to prevent aid to Turkey through NATO. Rumsfeld on Monday announced that the US and others would circumvent Germanys, France's and Belgium's plans to block assistance through NATO, by going around NATO.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The United States will go ahead with plans to boost Turkey's defenses in advance of a possible war with Iraq despite objections from NATO allies France, Germany and Belgium, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Monday.

"The planning's going to go forward outside of NATO, if necessary," Rumsfeld said, appearing at a Pentagon briefing with visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Notice the date, of Feb 10, and the last pargraph. "The planning's going to go forward outside of NATO, if necessary," Rumsfeld said, appearing at a Pentagon briefing with visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard.

Three days later Germany announces that it is helping Turkey outside of NATO, precisely what Rumsfeld had announced three days earlier, and that announcemnt by Germany contradicts Germany's effort to block supplies to Turkey through NATO. So it was Germany who backed off from its position.

Will you make up your mind. You just got done saying Schroeder and Chirac were planning this for a long time, and then now you change it to GW made them do it by bullying them for their vote on resolution 1441, which isn't that old. Which is it.

I did not say that Germany and France have been planning this for a long time.

Yes you did. Read the previous paragraph you wrote in this post and also this one you posted 2 days ago.

Ted Re...BRUSSELS, Feb. 13 -- The German government, which is helping block the dispatch of military equipment to Turkey by the NATO alliance, announced today it would soon begin shipping some of the same materiel to the government there.
Well, guess who just cried uncle, and decided that they were absorbing more punishment than they could take. Mr Gerhard, I love my polls, Schroeder. Maybe jumping into bed with Russia didn't sound too appealing after all. A few people say bad things, and Schroeder abandons his principals just like that.

Apparently, you didn't read the article in full. Germany is fulfilling its committment to Turkey without going thru NATO like it normally should. Its just another way of shooting the US the bird without hurting its European relationships very badly.

Get it.........Germany and France and the rest of them have been talking/complaining about Mr. Bush and his cowboy politics for some time. This breach in our alliance is only news to us. They have been planning on it for some time.

ted

However, that was envisioned to be ten-twenty years down the road.....if at all. Bush and Rumsfield have made it happened now.

So now it is Rumsfeld's and GW's fault that Germany France and Belgium blocked aid to Turkey on Monday; and started the disintegration of NATO. Your ability to blame Gw for everything never ceases to amaze me.
