Was there an "endgame" then, other than winning?

Everybody was "clueless." FDR wanted to beat Hitler and put that first with a holding campaign for Japan. We really didn't have a plan for Germany except a partition deal with Russia, et al, that was supposed to be temporary. We didn't know we were going to be occupying a Hirohito headed Japan until the final surrender. Another reason for my humorous response to the attempts by the anti-war crowd to make a big deal out of "What will we do?" and "Oh my God!" I guess their "Central Planning" genes are part of their Liberal makeup. :>)
