History shows Saddam uses his chemical weapons defensively. Precisely the condition the US is creating. But it appears the US is prepared to use the same kinds of weapons offensively.

You know, the bottom line, more than not, is a simple math test. Let's do it:
9/11 = 3,000 deaths. War = Potential for a million or more deaths, especially if the conflict widens into Turkey and Pakistan, perhaps even Iran.
What do you think would happen, given Bush's isolation policy with Europe (except for the British) if the US troops surround Baghdad and then, at that precise moment, Iran, Syria, Lebanon declre war on the US, this while a revolt takes place in Saudi Arabia?
We know that without this war, none of the above will happen.
I still contend, as evidenced by Libya's Kaddafi turning over a new leaf, the better strategy would be to have better, not worse, relations with Iraq--perahps even drawing in their assistance to track down the true terrorists: Al Qaeda! |
