I can't see the demise of the Democratic Party. That won't happen unless the Republicans become willing to espouse some liberal domestic causes on their own.

The Democratic party's problems are more due to its lack of ability to find a solid leader and to assemble a semi-unified message, rather than its platforms held as a party. If the Democratic party ever came to not reflecting the opinions of a significant part of the U.S. (ie, the country really became pro-life and anti-separation of church and state, trickle-down theory proved to work, etc...) then the party would be in real trouble and would in short time become irrelevant. For now, it's in limbo.
