Being the world’s only true superpower involves taking some level of responsibility for the growth and development of every nation on earth. In some places our effort is minimal, in others, far more decisive.

We want as many people on earth as possible to be free, prosperous and democratic. An American foreign policy, which sits back and watches dictator’s torture, imprison, and destroy their people and their neighbors, is a foreign policy fraught with mistakes.

The battle against terrorism makes this point even more important. We can either help build nations through trade, diplomacy, by setting an example, by rewarding or punishing their behavior with sections, by financially supporting them, or we can overthrow them.

The world is far too interconnected to sit back and watch dictators grow more embolden, and more destructive toward world peace.

No, the question is a valid one. In the same way as it was a valid one after the first Gulf War. By not finishing off Hussein then, we've paid a price. The question is, do we want to look back ten years from now and witness the situation we've helped to create, by not taking him out again today?
