Needless to say that I don't like the prospectus of a lengthy war with a possible fallout to other regions as well.

But one should never forget - that the U.S. had allies in Europe. Now, no one is asking what alienated them so much that they moved into the opposite direction.

One can say a lot about Jacques Chirac, including that he is arrogant which many French men of his age are. But one thing is for sure: He is not dumb.
