NanoPierce Subsidiary ExypnoTech Expands Product Portfolio with Low-Cost RFID Readers

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 2003--NanoPierce Technologies, Inc., (OTCBB:NPCT) today announced that its subsidiary, ExypnoTech GmbH, a component supplier for RFID solution providers and system integrators, has broadened its product portfolio, offering RFID readers compatible with its proprietary RFID products.

The multi-protocol 13.56 MHz reader module ET-R1 is compatible with ISO-15693 and ISO-14443 standards and can read tags from Texas Instruments (Tag-it), Philips (I-Code, SLI), Infineon (My-d) and ST-Microelectronis (LRI). Additional protocols for RFID chips from suppliers like Tagsys are in preparation and expected to be available by the middle of this year. The ET-R1 comes with an on-board antenna but can also be connected to external antennas for greater range. Due to very low DC power consumption (1,2 V), the ET-R1 can even be powered by a battery in handheld applications.

Low-power requirement combined with the small dimensions of the module (38 mm x 40 mm) enable easy integration by OEMs into products like label printers, office printers, handheld systems and any other custom equipment with built-in automatic identification of tagged components. For high-volume requirements ExypnoTech also offers the possibility to integrate the reader PIC micro-controller (firmware locked inside) for in-print design or the reader firmware only.

An RFID-starter kit, including the ET-R1, sample tags, cable set and CD with software and documentation is also offered by ExypnoTech.

ExypnoTech plans to provide an expanded RFID component portfolio with RFID reader modules in addition to smart inlays to better serve RFID key accounts with a broad range of higher added-value components.
