In private Carter makes his views about the government known, as a friend of his revealed. The friend said: "The former President is far too discreet to go mouthing off. Jimmy Carter apparently believes that joining campaigns against the current administration lies within the bounds of discretion. If Carter has been practicing "discretion", Lord spare us from his idea of "indiscretion".
