Not sure I know what this "new tecyhnology" is but I did see a demo of Vtel stuff last week and here are the highlights:

1. Camera system: next month Vtel will release a new system that features a smart camera. The camera will automatically track in on whoever is speaking or whenever the presenter (ie teacher , doctor) moves. The idea here is to let those featured in the presentation to be completely independent of it. They should be able to do whatever it is they have planned without having to operate a complex system.
I was told this technology came from CLIX.

2. Smarter System that will allow a video conference to operate at whatever level of each participant. Today the higher end systems must drop their resolutions and quality of the transmission if there is a participant that is using a less robust system. Point here is that everyone must (today) be on on the same oprating parameters. I was told there would be an October release of this new system.

3. Biggest change I saw was the Vtel decision to get behind their own internal services group. Today all services are performed by VARs. Increasingly in the future we should expect VTEL to offer to perform the integration and consulting services if VARs are unable of unwilling. This seems to me to be important since it will allow VTEL to get more VARS. They do have a careful balancing act with the VARS since they do not have their own sales force. How successfull they are with the VARS will (in my judgement) determine fate of company.
