Just judging by the emotional reaction of people to the Columbia disaster, I think some of that is priced in, as most people expect another attack of some sort. The level of 'random' and crime-related gun violence in the U.S. also provides a slightly higher threshold. A Bali style bombing would not cause a big problem. Another attack like the World Trade Center would be a problem. Briton was able to function pretty well even with some bombings by the IRA over the years. Miami was able to function through the cocaine wars of the early 1980's. It is true that the U.S. has not faced this kind of threat since the end of the Indian Wars, and it will probably take society some time to adapt. This will show up in more risk aversion, and lower price / earnings ratios.
