And what a great show it was! I just watched if five hours after you. Unfortunately, Rose does not make a transcript available. I was amazed that Judt was "Odd man out." Hoagland summed it up. He said to Judt, "The difference between you and me is that I believe America can do good things overseas, and you don't." Judt responded, "Yes, you are right, I don't believe this administration can do good." (Now we know why John loves him. :>))
The "Process" issue you mentioned is interesting. Eliott brought up that Powell had answered the French FM at the UN by saying, "you want to talk about process, and not about substance." The panel agreed with that. It made me think, "that is what is going on here with our anti-war posters also!"
Hoagland also mentioned to Judt, "Another difference between you and me is that I am in Washington and you are in New York. I set down and talk to these people one on one an you don't. Everybody is on Rumsfeld, but I think he is the best intellectual of the bunch. He is very aware of the 'Murphy's Law" problem." Judt responded, "I believe Rumsfeld more than any of them."
They ended the show by all agreeing the war is now a "done deal," and the feeling was that there would be no second resolution out of the UN unless it was the "Half resolution" we have talked about. |
