<Freedom for Iraqis? A chance at life with liberty? Free speech, rather than speech and death? Justice, even if delayed, for all those murdered? No more gassing of Iraqi civilians?>
I have to tell you.......I get real suspicious when people try to sell me on an idea using one reason and when that doesn't work or the reason proves to be empty, then they quickly move to another.
You already know I believe there is more than one reason to take out Saddam. But I have been focusing on the human rights angle because that is the one I believe you are not being true to yourself about.
So what is it about the above results that don't have to do with human rights? Freedom is a human right. Or should be, IMHO.
But for me, nothing has changed.......none of the above warrants a preemptive strike. Besides, I think the possible negative consequences far outweigh the positive.
When someone is being mugged, or has been mugged, and you take action against the mugger, that is NOT preemptive. On the human rights issue it is a combined justice/preventative thing. The preemptive argument applies only to our own security, not that of the Iraqis.
As for negative consequences potentially outweighing the positive, does that mean we should let muggers go free because it is dangerous to stop them?
Yes, that's right......I try to nab a mugger in my neighborhood, not in your neighborhood. I would never presume to know what's best for your neighborhood.
That is a load of crap. Someone being mugged is a victim no matter where it happens. So you would just sit and watch me get mugged and walk away? Thanks.
Of course, its ridiculous.......and so is our sticking our nose in someone else's business. Surprised by the rise in anti American sentiment......well, nobody likes a busy body; particularly when they are a self appointend busybody cop!
The problem is, we are in the middle of it. The world is a much smaller place than it used to be. We fought off the mugger and agreed to leave him alone if he would give up his knife. Well he hasn't. Time to do whatever it takes to stop the mugging for good.
