Still, if a forum exists, there is a preponderance of opinion in that forum that war is uncalled for, and it's that forum's resolutions are the ones being thwarted, then it takes a certain arrogance to act contrary to the wishes of the forum, whatever it's weaknesses.

I don't know if I buy that as a general principle. Lots of forums exist, including multinational ones and countries or organizations or individuals violate the wishes or resolutions of those forums all the time. I don't see how its being arrogant to not defer to a forum that is not an authority whether or not you speak in that forum.

I guess some people see the UN as less then an authority but more then a forum. A kind of quasi authority that should be listened to even if it doesn't have to be. I'm not sure if you think of the UN this way or not.

In any case our beef with Iraq is not that they violated UN SC resolutions. It is the substance of those violations. The issue would still be there if the UN had never been involved or even if it didn't exist.
