"In the US residential real estate mkt, information inefficiencies have been capitalized into fees for real estate sales agents. In any real estate market, information is power. This power has, in the past, been controlled largely by real estate agents via the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and its affiliated local chapters and indirectly throughout the Multiple Listing Service's (MLS) computer-based information service. The use of the MLS has been restricted to its NAR member users."

"NAR has named its listing access vehicle the REALTOR Information Network (RIN). It is designed to keep sales agents in control of sales information and to keep consumers out of the loop..."
