i have the house wired as well too. I do have one "shaded" area that isn't so hot, but still works. And that is in the den when I am positioned with the rock fireplace between me and the access point.

802.11b operates in an unlicensed wavelength, so other devices in your home can interfere. Examples would be your microwave and portable phones. Also, if your neighbor has a wireless network, their network can interfere with yours.
