J. Renan, (whom you quote in your header), was an historian on ancient hebraïc times, or rather the rising of the Christian faith. I ignored he had any authority on French ignorance...
Thus I dispute any validity of his quote. (not that I share his religious beliefs.)
Now, to make things clear, I am French. By birth, parents, wife, kids, most books I have read, most of the last thirty years I have lived there.
I like their civilization, tact, etc. But I do not agree with most of their foreign policy, since 1967 though. Not to mention their economic one.
So, as for this first post of mine here, it seems that, as the only Frenchman posting around on SI out of a few thousands; that already tells much on the depth and width of the pond that separates both nations.
But let us remember that when Lindbergh made it across, half a million Parisians braved the night to greet him at le Bourget. So they can't be that ignorant!
Still, feel free to launch your cruise missiles. I'll only attempt to intercept, redirect the misguided ones. |
