Zonder, as a trial lawyer I am unpleasantly familiar with the all-too-human (maybe all-too-American) desire to pile onto the gravy train. There are places in America where, if you are involved in an accident, people will jump into your vehicle in order to get compensation from the insurance company, especially buses. I remember one story about a bus accident where people were climing in through the windows!

There were even people who faked losing family members on 9/11 in order to cash in.

Right now all over America families are suing gun manufacturers because they lost a family member in a shooting accident, or even deliberate murder. There are people with cancer suing tobacco companies. For a while, fat people were suing McDonald's.

The whole country is litigious beyond comprehension.

So when I see several thousand veterans of foreign wars claiming to be disabled while no doctor can find any medical reason why, my first thought is that they want something for nothing. It's the American way.

My second thought is that they are older than they were when they went overseas, and getting older leads to aches and pains. It's a natural part of aging, especially if you are sedentary, which most Americans are.
