Hillary Spokesgal Fumes Over McCain's 'Shut-up' Advice
A spokeswoman for Sen. Hillary Clinton sounded angry Wednesday morning over comments from Sen. John McCain yesterday, after the Arizona Republican urged ex-President Bill Clinton to "shut up!" and stop criticizing President Bush as the nation prepares for war.
"I don't think that's appropriate," barked the Clinton press flak, who hung up the phone abruptly before we could get the full McCain quote out.
No one in ex-President Clinton's Harlem office was available to comment on Sen. McCain's remarks.
In an interview with nationally syndicated radio host Sean Hannity on Tuesday, the Senate's most influential Republican slammed both ex-presidents Clinton and Carter for their recent Bush bashing, saying they were "causing damage" to U.S. interests with their constant carping about White House war plans in Iraq.
"Look, former presidents can do damage," McCain warned. "It's very unhelpful. It's in some ways damaging."
He then added, "I just have two words: Shut up!"
"It was an unwritten rule for a long time," the Arizona Republican told Hannity, "that you kept your mouth shut about the conduct, particularly of national security affairs, by the people that succeeded you. That is obviously not honored by either former President Carter or former President Clinton." newsmax.com |
