<<Most such forecasts show a war against Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein would leave industrial economies in a shambles, regardless of its speed and outcome.>>

BUT, the prevailing analysis coming from much of Europe is greatly different than from the US. We now(?) all know "analysts" do not operate in a vaccum, rather, they mostly only make statements which support another interest.

I wonder if the firms from which the "analysts" to whom the author spoke came from a banking / brokerage house with ties to - perhaps Total?? Would the author find the same analysis if speaking with "neutral analysts" from say firms who provide banking services for perhaps Royal Dutch Shell (have not the Dutch of late come out in support of President Bush?)?

I doubt not what you say or quote, only that it will be very hard to find none whose opinions are not driven through their collective pocketbooks! Back home we have a saying, "You want to hear the truth, don't ask a man with a dog in the fight which started it or any man betting on either side".

btw - to find a great part of the "real" reason the $ has lost ground one must look to those states & people whom elected President Bush. While the administration has held the "official stance that they support a strong $" they are also often quoted of supporting only FREE markets, where markets set the value of everything - including the currency markets!
