"For most it is difficult at best to constantly slice and dice their positions" ... yes, few of us have the time and flexibility of Comrade VT, a.k.a. Wiley. My PF swings range down to 10% and more at times, but as of today I have a 360% gain in exactly 3 years, mostly playing miners. A lot of that gain was built on just a few big positions and holding.
