Anti-war protests.

I see a lot of them now, with thousands, sometimes millions participating. In '91 there weren't 1/100th that many participants.

Overestimation of Iraqi resistance.

Back then we did indeed overestimate Iraqi resistance. We never heard the words "Republcian Guard" without them preceded by "elite". Today I don't think you can find one single analyst, or any informed individual that gives Iraq any chance at all. You'll get better odds taking North Carolina A&T to win the NCAA men's basketball championship than you will that Iraq can prevail this time around against us.

Suspicions of America's oil interest.

I'll give you that one. But it isn't as if that's ever changed.

A Bush in the White House.

Just because the last name's the same doesn't mean anything else is the same. Bush fils carries out policies that are much more consistent with Reagan than his father, free trade notwithstanding.

Economic recession.

We were in a recession during the buildup to Desert Storm. We aren't now. We might go into one after this war begins, though. And that's a pretty significant difference.

OK, you've done pretty well establishing my point about things being different, how about citing some more of those similarities?

edit: Wait let me guess. Hussein has a secretary named Dubya, and Bush has a secretary named Saddam. Right?
