There has been much speculation about this: control of oil supplies, revenge by the son for the father, "finishing" the war in the Persian Gulf, pursuing a stalled war on terrorism that has nowhere else to go except against another government.

Curious how many people find it easy to believe that Bush 43 is motivated by revenge even to point of conducting a self-destructive campaign, while finding it difficult to believe that Saddam Hussein could be motivated by revenge to any similar extent. Considering the natures and histories of the two men, quite an extraordinary conclusion.
