The story above about the budget/tax deal says "
The ethanol subsidy would expire at the end of 2000 as the current law states. Some lawmakers had been pushing for an extension at a reduced level after the expiry."
Please correct any misunderstandings I may state in the following, but I believe the credit is worth $0.55/ gal of ethanol and HIPC gets 2 1/2 gallons/ bushel of corn, so if nothing else changed, this would be equivalant to an increase in the price of corn by $1.375/bushel. Now I agree that the statement "nothing else changed" is too simple, but I personally never realized how big a hit this could be. I first bought this stock about five years ago, bought more less than a year ago, and have never yet sold any. I have to think hard about the future at this point and would appreciate any enlightened comment from others. Comments to the effect that I've been stupid to not have traded this stock five times at just the right time not required!
