Hoffmann's a character--a real old-style European intellectual. He and Huntington represent pretty much the last of the old guard at the Harvard Government Department, the remains of an era in which political scientists actually cared about the real world. (Kissinger was part of their crowd back when he was a professor. In graduate school I used to sit at the feet of the geezers and soak up gossipy stories of the old days.) He still does the Europe book reviewing for FA. If you like his stuff, you might be interested in his general take on the current scene, available here:
