The total memory bandwidth for a single Opteron will be 666 MHz x 8 bytes in April, effectively equivalent to the P4, given the P4's smaller L2 cache, its penchant for doing unnecessary memory reads, and the P4's longer first-access penalties (latency). But compare 2-way systems, and the Opteron system's memory bandwidth doubles while the P4's doesn't budge.
