Slider and Jim.
You both are obviously very intelligent people. Everyone learns much from your debates. There is one thing which I see, which I think Slider perhaps discounts totally, and Jim puts off until many, many years down the road at best. I don't want to bring down the "nutty old prophecy man" ire of the thread, but I feel we are very close to some major things happening. IF I am correct, then the world will face challenges like never before. I think that life in Europe, and the US, and Japan, and all the other "modernized" countries will become almost as difficult (at least mentally) as the 3rd world countries. There MUST be such pain (either physical or financial) that the entire world will listen to the "savior" with the "answers" when he arrives on the scene -- and he will arrive (for those not familiar, I speak of the anti-christ). Perhaps there will be a time where gold will shine extremely bright, but I think it will not last too long. And those that believe "life just goes on" will be sorely disappointed and scared $%*#less.
It will be interesting to see how both of your opinions change as time goes on. I think Jim has correctly identified the ultimate set-up that is coming in terms of economic meltdown. Somewhere, there is a group of people meeting each day adjusting their schedules and plans as this thing unfolds. Most are totally oblivious, and that is why they will so readily accept the guy with the "answers".
Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry with the world. This will be the saying very soon. I don't want to see people suffer, but the prophecies will be fulfilled.
