You're towing the CNN view of what the "Arab party line" is, whereas my Afghan friends are on the cutting edge of potentially huge positive changes occuring in their country. They are involved with the change in Afghanistan, you are not.
I know the dominant middle eastern Arab view of Israel and the U.S. is not favorable, but I also know that it is a view formed through intense government propaganda. The Arab media spends a lot of time promoting hatred of others, while avoiding domestic issues, such as government corruption. I'm sure 99% of the German public believed Poland was a threat in the late 30s, but Poland was not a threat, the dominant German view was formed through propaganda. So when you say a percentage of Arabs think this way or that about the U.S., all I can think is that they don't have the facts, how could they, there is no free press. Recall the Saudi government newspaper last year that quoted an Arab professor who explained to his Arab brothers how Jews eat gentiles at their passover celebrations. My point is, with an American presence in Iraq, the rest of the Arab world may come to realize what they've been told of the U.S. is largely false.
Given time, with an American presence in Iraq the dominant Arab view could change for the better. I'm sorry zonder, but Iraq's leader is a human butcher on a grand scale and I believe with him deposed and the fortunes of Iraqis turned around the middle east can't help but be a better place for everyone. I don't hate Iraqis, my neighbors don't hate Iraqis, American troops are not going to butcher Iraqis, like their own army does. |
