Dear Joe: SPLAT!!! There goes Paul DeMonde's hopes for a 1.6GHz Itanium3 hitting the wall of reality. 2GHz Opteron already matches 1GHz Itanium2 in SPECfp and blows it away in SPECint. Perhaps at the same power level, Itanium3 will not be very good at dense compute clusters and buried at dense database clusters. They must be shipping Excedrins and bicarbs to Intel by the crate.
