the market is going to go where it is going to go, regardless of news.

IMO you are talking about "the big picture"...and I'm probably thinking about the smaller market moves.

I do think the "mood" of investors can change the market direction for at least a short period of time. Maybe long term, then the news events are just "noise"....and the market will continue to trade based on other factors.

If some news event is seen as very positive, then IMO that can start a rally...and likewise negative news can start a major sell off.

So...if you are taking short term positions, then IMO there are many factors that can help you determine the market direction, and news and "market mood" are just one of those factors to consider.
