Excellent piece. That does a pretty good of summing things up. We're up the creek and somebody forgot the paddle.

There are good points on both sides of this debate. Yeah, it would be nice to have UN sanction. What that means is lots of help, though. The UN is not a gov't and other than getting other nations to aid us, its opinion is meaningless.

And, yes, war is a LOUSY way of settling things. It's like jumping off a bridge hoping for a soft, fluffy landing place. Its consequences are unknown and unknowable at the start. WW2 settled finally the fate of German militarism. But WW1 brought WW2.

The French? Every charge about Bush, war, and oil has its counterpart in the position of the French. They are fatally compromised and have been for decades. Their presence on the Security Council is a bad joke.

Going to war may incite more terrorism, yes. And at this point NOT going to war may have exactly the same effect. It may very well turn out to be an exact counterpart of the brave French failing to move divisions into the Rhineland when der Führer marched in.
