<<...i've got a little silver ounce here that i'm willing to
put on the line. alinghi wins the next two...>>

r1: sometimes 'the underdogs' surprise everyone. Dean Barker is a very good sailor who trained under elpolvo's good friend Russell Coutts...He has an experienced crew and a very fast boat. If he is able to get a better start, get his crew to work at a higher level AND reduce crucial errors, then he may have a chance to beat Alinghi in at least 1 race...Coutts, Butterworth & Co. are amazing competitors and will really make you work hard for a victory though <G>...I went to a small liberal arts college along the coast of Maine and was on the sailing team...we had some sailors that were quite experienced and we ran our own practices in larks and 470s in a place called Cundys Harbor -- it was beautiful and we tried to take things as seriously as we could BUT we still sailed with a few extra beers on Fridays. We would race against a lot of the ivy league schools (like Harvard, MIT, and Yale) and they all had incredible resources -- big fleets of brand new boats, professional coaches, and students that were nationally ranked sailors...Yet, at times some of us were able to beat them in sailing competitions -- it was rare BUT it was fun...You had to really be in synch with your crew and be sailing in 'the zone.'
